Next week in Anaheim, California, hundreds of stormwater
professionals will gather for StormCon ’09, the North American Surface Water
Quality Conference & Exposition. Some of you may be planning to attend; for
those of you who are still on the fence, here are a few highlights.
The keynote speaker on Tuesday, August 18, at 8:00 a.m. will
be actress and activist Gloria Reuben. Known for her current role in the
television series “Raising the Bar,” she has also appeared as a regular
character in “ER,” “Law & Order,” and many other programs. Her lesser-known
roles, however, include acting as vice chair for the board of trustees for
Waterkeeper Alliance, as well as involvement with many other environmental and
human rights organizations.
On Wednesday, August 19, at 10:00 a.m., StormCon will again
present what has become one of the popular events at the conference: the
discussion panel on BMPs. This year’s theme is “BMPs, LID, and the Highway
Environment.” The panel will be moderated by John Sansalone of the University of
Florida, Gainesville. Panelists
will be Michael Barrett of the Center for Research in Water Resources,
University of Texas, Austin, TX; Gordon England of Stormwater Solutions Inc.,
Cocoa Beach, FL; John Gulliver of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis,
MN/St. Anthony Falls Laboratory; and Masoud Kayhanian of the Center for
Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, University of California, Davis,
CA.
